Reversed Journey, Film Paper and Acrylic Board, 2025.
Reversed Journey explores memory as a process of replication. Drawing on personal recollections of Shanghai, this project uses layering, transparency, and light to question how authentic experience can be mediated, distorted, or reimagined through copies.
Each of the five film paper corresponds to one of the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste and touch to form a series of perceptual "maps" that overlap and interact. Rather than preserving a fixed or singular memory, these layered visuals reveal how repetition can create new emotional and graphic meanings over time.
Reversed Journey is a dialogue between control and chance, treating the copy not as a passive reproduction, but as a generative tool for reinterpreting place, memory, and identity.

My creative interest lies in transforming my wildly imaginative ideas into tangible forms through constant experimentation. As an international student who has lived in Melbourne for eight years, I love everything about here, but I also deeply miss the warmth of my hometown. Therefore, upon graduation, I hoped to create a commemorative work about my "old home" in my "new home."
In the project Reversed Journey, I focused on themes such as "replication," "memory," and "identity," hoping to explore the relationship between perception and space through layering, transparency, and light.
During my studies at VCA, my design methodology gradually shifted from concept-driven approaches to experimentation. I began to focus more on the expressive power of materials themselves, and how they generate meaning across different media. In my view, materials are not passive carriers, but rather part of the narrative.
