This project engages with methods of photographic surface scanning as an approach to representing urban environments within the contemporary landscape. Even more so, it raises the question of how these copying techniques can serve as a tool to decode urban spaces, revealing the varied ambiances and visual cues within them. Mimicking the techniques used in psychogeographic mapping, this project cultivates a physical and emotional relationship with the urban landscape. In doing so, it reinterprets our relationship to the surrounding environment, ultimately challenging the role of wayfinding materials and conventional modes of geographic representation.

Exploring notions of place, memory, and belonging, April Sofra offers a uniquely introspective and abstract approach to creative practice within Graphic Design. Having worked with interdisciplinary mediums throughout the duration of her undergraduate course, April’s portfolio spans across digital, interactive, and analogue productions of design to represent an all-encompassing exploration of identity and homecoming.
Throughout her Capstone projects, these experimental processes have become foundational to her creative approach, questioning how methods of design can evoke emotion, embody human experience, and ultimately communicate personal narratives. Embracing aspects of experimentation, tactility, and reflection within her creative practice, April seeks to blur the boundary between art and design, bridging the dialogue between self and space to create work that feels both intimate and thoughtful. Her design philosophy, grounded in curiosity and emotional connection, reflects an ongoing exploration of how visual communication can transcend a practical purpose to offer honest, meaningful expressions of design.

This type specimen of Respira Black explores a contemporary reinterpretation of blackletter script. In doing so, the project considers the ways in which socio-cultural understandings of spirituality and religion have evolved from the 15th to the 21st Century. This shift is embodied through the format of affirmation cards, connecting historic script traditions with modern interpretations and practices of faith.
